UAE to register all companies in caller ID service
Every business or establishment registered in the UAE is now automatically a part of the Kashif initiative, which requires calling parties to display their name and phone number to call recipients, according to a statement from the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA). This initiative was gradually introduced by TDRA, starting in mid-2021, in collaboration with the service providers to improve customer happiness and satisfaction with telecommunications services in the UAE. It is anticipated to have an impact in the future by reducing telemarketers' calls, which will be a side effect. To improve customer confidence in the telecom industry generally and in calls received from various private sector companies in particular and to lessen telecom subscribers' dissatisfaction with anonymous calls, the TDRA indicated that it had enacted the regulations and executive procedures related to this feature. No matter if the call comes from a mobile or fixed number, the customer can recognize the calling party by name. The launch of this feature, according to the TDRA, followed a review of best practices and standards from around the world, discussions with service providers about the initiative, identification of the required regulatory tools, alterations to service provider networks, and technical testing of mobile devices in collaboration with manufacturers to ensure full readiness. TDRA first used this feature to analyze banking sector data before expanding to other industries like health, hospitality, and education. In 2022, this feature was made available to all fixed and mobile numbers registered in the names of private sector companies. TDRA confirmed that "Kashif" is regarded as the first line of the caller's identification; however, because this feature is available, users are still required to abide by the rules of the authorities regarding the confidentiality of personal information like account numbers, passwords, identification words, and others.
