The UAE and Qatar have reopened their missions in both countries after announcing the restoration of diplomatic representation effective Monday (June 19). The UAE reopened its embassy in Doha, while Qatar reopened its embassy in Abu Dhabi and consulate in Dubai. The move follows the Al Ula agreement and the countries’ “joint keenness on strengthening the bilateral relations”, according to state news agency WAM. “The two sides underlined that this step embodies the will of the leaderships of the two counties and in the consolidation of the march joint Arab action to achieve the aspirations of the two brotherly people,” according to WAM. In June 2017, the UAE, along with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt, severed their diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism. Also that year, Qatar's official news agency reported that the country was withdrawing its ambassadors from Saudi, Bahrain, Egypt, and the UAE after discovering a "conspiracy" against Qatar. In a sign of returning relations with Qatar, UAE officials met to discuss the relationship in the last quarter of 2022. UAE officials again met with Qatari counterparts in April this year to discuss how both countries can work together. In the same month, the UAE ended a 6-year ban on Qatar-sponsored Al Jazeera.
