UAE reopens mosques, churches in labour camps, industrial areas

DUBAI – Mosques, churches and other places of worship in Dubai’s industrial areas and labour camps can now reopen, authorities announced late on Friday (August 28) night. The mosques can reopen at 30 percent capacity while adhereing to Covid-19 precautionary measures, according to the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority. This includes the mandatory wearing of face masks and maintaining a three-metre physical distance among worshippers. Gatherings and handshakes are not allowed. Mosque goers must also bring their own prayer mats and read the Holy Quran through apps on their smartphone instead. Mosques across the UAE have been operating at 50 percent capacity since August 3 but Friday mosque prayers remain suspended. ICA/Expat Media
