Free UAE traffic course to erase black points

The Abu Dhabi Police has rolled out a free traffic awareness course that can erase black points on motorists’ traffic files. A total of 1,680 drivers in Abu Dhabi have already availed of the scheme to have black points reduced in their traffic file. Many were also able to reclaim their confiscated driving license. Under the UAE traffic law, black points are imposed on motorists for major traffic violations, such as driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving. A motorists who accumulates 24 black points face driving licence suspension or confiscation. For some traffic violation, the vehicle may also be impounded even if the black points are less than 24. How Abu Dhabi’s traffic points programme works

Motorists who have accumulated the maximum 24 black points can join Abu Dhabi Police’s awareness classes, which involves three programmes. Classes are in English, Arabic and Urdu. Drivers with 8 to 23 black points can get a maximum deduction of eight points per year if they pass the course. Drivers with 24 black points and driving license confiscated can undergo the second programme. Drivers whose vehicles have been impounded can go for the third programme.
