Residents returning from holidays faced surprise fines of Dh3,000 following a crackdown on abandoned cars in Abu Dhabi. Mahmood Ahmed, among those affected, told Khaleej Times that he received an SMS from Abu Dhabi Municipality about a fine on his parked car that was left unwashed. Abu Dhabi penalizes car abandonment with a Dh3,000 fine and vehicle confiscation. Authorities in the Al Dhafra Region have increased inspections to remove abandoned cars from public areas, and are placing stickers on long-term parked, dusty cars to enforce rules. Residents are encouraged to keep cars clean and avoid prolonged outdoor parking to promote public health, cleanliness, and sustainable waste management. Dh500 penalty in Dubai and Sharjah In Dubai and Sharjah, vehicle owners can receive a Dh500 fine if they leave their cars unwashed in public parking spaces for an extended duration. Inspectors have been deployed to target abandoned cars. Upon identifying a neglected vehicle, a notice is affixed to its windshield, granting drivers up to 15 days to clean the car. Failure to do so could result in authorities impounding or auctioning off the vehicle.
