UAE residents now actively aiming for sustainability

Residents across the UAE are now actively choosing environmentally friendly choices to live more sustainably by 2022. A recent poll conducted on behalf of Ariel Middle East by Censuswide stated that a region-wide push toward a greener future has meant that environmentally friendly lifestyle choices have become a top priority for people in the UAE. The poll results revealed that 83% of UAE residents are aware of their environmental footprint and the influence of their purchase decisions on the globe. According to the survey, four out of every ten people plan to make more sustainable decisions for the rest of 2022, with 35 to 44-year-olds being the most likely age group in the UAE to actively choose sustainability. While there is a strong desire to be more environmentally conscious, the findings also found that 35% of respondents felt there is a severe scarcity of sustainable goods to meet this need. Around 31% also claimed to have a lack of knowledge about adopting more sustainable activities. Norma Taki of PwC Middle East Consumer Markets said that a variety of reasons, ranging from mass remote working to tech-driven regional development, have impacted and continue to affect consumer spending patterns and views. She stated that it is apparent that these changes are here to stay. “As consumer optimism continues to grow in the region, it is essential that retailers and consumer companies take note of these shifting trends and adapt their priorities and strategies accordingly,” said Taki.
