UAE residents to have shortest Ramadan fasting period in four years
DUBAI – UAE residents who will be fasting during Ramadan will experience the shortest fasting period in four years, an expert said.
The fasting period for Ramadan this time is less than 15 hours a day, according to Emirati astronomer Thabet Al Qaissieh of Al Sadeem Observatory in Al Wathba.
Ramadan is expected to begin on May 6.
During last year’s Ramadan, the fasting period in the UAE was 15 hours.
The fasting period is set to shorten each year for more than a decade because the start of Ramadan moves backwards by 10 days each year.
The shortest fasting period is expected in 2030, when Ramadan is predicted to start on December 25 and end on January 23, making the fasting period a little over 10 hours and 30 minutes.
Fasting hours differ around the world, with Ramadan timings observed in six continents at different time zones.
