UAE residents warned against maid services on socials

UAE residents were warned on Tuesday (March 14) against dealing with illegal recruiters posting housemaid services on social media. According to an advisory by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, unauthorized agencies are taking advantage of the increasing demand for household workers ahead of Ramadan. "Unreliable pages and accounts on social media start promoting this kind of employment to attract those looking to hire domestic workers," according to MOHRE. The ministry said there are legal consequences and health risks when dealing with illegal housemaids and recruiters. “This is in addition to the possibility of the employers and their family members getting exposed to infectious diseases since there is no proof these domestic workers are free from any health conditions or disease. The domestic worker could be a law violator, too, which would add to the risks,” according to the ministry. Under the UAE law, all housemaid recruitment need to be coursed through Tadbeer, a government-run service for the employment of domestic workers in the UAE. Tadbeer centres offer recruitment packages, flexible contracts and visa services for those looking to hire housemaids in the UAE, with a standard set of salaries and payment terms. Employers can check with MOHRE on the reliability of agencies via the hotline 600590000. ICA/Expat Media
