UAE: Revised visa categories, sponsorship to take effect in September

Several new and revised visa categories are expected to take effect in September in the UAE. Foreign nationals living in the UAE may now sponsor their children for up to 25 years, as opposed to the previous limit of 18 years. Additionally, parents may sponsor unmarried daughters and children of determination for an indefinite period regardless of age. According to the recently revised laws, families benefit most from the new visa modifications because they can remain longer in the UAE, making the country more family-friendly. Below is a step-by-step guide for how long the visa holders can sponsor their children: Golden Visa holders: The revisions now let Golden Residence holders sponsor their spouses and children, regardless of age. Additionally, it enables them to invest in employee support services without limiting their number. Green Visa and other categories: The age of children who can be sponsored has been raised from 18 to 25 years, while sponsoring unmarried daughters require no age limit. Children of determination are granted a residence permit, regardless of their age. Sponsorship requirements: Expatriate residents who are both employers and employees may sponsor their families to live in the UAE if they have a valid residence permit or visa. Male and female family members aged 18 and above must undergo and pass the medical fitness examinations at authorized health facilities in the UAE. A residency visa will not be issued to those who are medically unfit. A resident sponsor has 60 days to apply for his dependents’ residence visa after they enter the UAE under an entry permit.
