Schools across the UAE have shifted back to distance learning until Friday (May 8), following an announcement by the Ministry of Education amid heightened regional tensions. The move came after multiple emergency alerts were issued across the country on Tuesday (May 5), prompting authorities to take precautionary measures to ensure public safety and continuity of essential services, including education. The UAE’s emergency alert system was activated four times within a span of three and a half hours after missile activity was detected in the region following a ceasefire in the US-Israel-Iran conflict that took effect on April 9. In response, education authorities and school administrations transitioned students to remote learning platforms, with classes continuing according to regular schedules in an online format. Schools said they remain in close coordination with authorities and will provide updates to parents and students if any changes arise. For now, academic activities are proceeding as planned through distance learning systems. The latest shift comes weeks after students resumed in-person classes on Monday (April 20), following nearly seven weeks of remote education implemented earlier as a precaution linked to regional security developments. During that earlier period, schools, nurseries and universities operated under heightened readiness protocols, including staggered returns to campuses and enhanced safety measures. Authorities had previously directed all educational institutions to maintain flexibility and be prepared to switch between in-person and remote learning depending on evolving conditions.
