Due to the frequency of influenza, some UAE schools have urged parents not to send sick children to school. A recent spike in flu cases has been recorded in the UAE, with schools in Sharjah, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi reporting hundreds of cases of students with fever and other symptoms. The International School of Choueifat in Sharjah emailed parents on Monday asking for their assistance in limiting the spread of illnesses and viruses in the classroom. "This serves as a precautionary measure for all parents in relation to influenza A and B virus," the email said. "To prevent widespread flu in school, we recommend that your child stay home if experiencing flu or cold symptoms," the email stated. They listed several symptoms, including a fever greater than 38°C (100°F), vomiting (even once), diarrhea, chills, fatigue, discomfort, weakness, muscle aches, nasal congestion, runny nose, and frequent coughing. The Ministry of Health and Prevention initiated its seasonal influenza campaign last month, which will run through December and is in keeping with the UAE's aim to provide comprehensive health coverage and safeguard members of society from infectious diseases.
