As tropical storm Kristine and typhoon Leon wreak havoc in the Philippines, the UAE has stepped in to provide crucial aid to affected regions. This week, the UAE dispatched 33,000 food packs for distribution to communities severely impacted by the storm. The food aid was officially distributed on Wednesday (October 30) to 1,000 families in Marikina City, with distribution facilitated by UAE Ambassador Mohamed Obaid Alzaabi and DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian. “The UAE stands with the Philippines in this time of need,” Ambassador Alzaabi said, emphasizing the UAE’s commitment to humanitarian assistance. The Emirates Red Crescent and Philippine officials are collaborating to distribute more than 30,000 food packs in the Bicol Region, which has been among the worst affected by the recent storms. Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel commended the UAE for its solidarity. Recent reports from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) have shown severe damage across 17 regions, with over 7.4 million people impacted. NDRRMC’s latest data indicates significant infrastructure and agricultural losses, with damages reaching over P9 billion. UAE’s support comes amid a massive local and international relief effort, with the NDRRMC coordinating responses to assist the displaced and those affected by disrupted transport, closed ports, and schools.
