The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has stepped up its humanitarian operations in the Philippines, sending urgent aid to thousands of families affected by widespread flooding and landslides. Heavy rains in recent days have triggered severe floods and landslides across several provinces, leaving dozens dead, displacing more than 80,000 people, and damaging homes, schools, bridges, and farmland. The ERC confirmed that more than 18,000 people in the Soccsksargen region on Mindanao Island, including those in Sultan Kudarat and South Cotabato, have already benefited from the UAE’s relief efforts. The assistance included food packages, clean drinking water, health kits, hygiene supplies, and temporary shelter materials. In a statement, the ERC said its response reflects the UAE’s deeply rooted humanitarian values, “based on solidarity with communities during crises and disasters and on supporting victims without discrimination of race, religion, or sectarian affiliation.” The ERC emphasized that its first priority was to source urgent needs from local markets in the Philippines to ensure swift distribution, working in coordination with the UAE Mission in Manila.
