UAE severe weather warning: Heavy rain, some hailstorm starting March 8

Severe weather conditions are expected in the UAE from Friday evening (March 8) until Sunday noon (March 10), with heavy rain, lightning, thunder and occasional hailstorms. The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) made the announcement in a press briefing on Thursday (March 7). The authority urged residents to be cautious and avoid going to the beach, valleys and hail-affected areas. It urged residents to stay at home and avoid going out except in cases of “extreme necessity”. Unstable weather conditions are forecast to start from Al Dhafra and Al Ain regions, before extending to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. The intense weather is forecast to ease by Sunday evening.

Friday, March 8

Unstable weather conditions and partly cloudy to cloudy accompanied by some convective clouds over scattered areas of the country with rainfall of different intensities associated with lightning and thunder. Moderate to fresh Southeasterly to Northeasterly winds, strong at times with clouds causing blowing dust and sand reducing the horizontal visibility, with a speed of 20 – 30 reaching 60 Km/hr. The sea will be moderate becoming rough with clouds in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman sea.

Saturday, March 9

Unstable weather conditions and partly cloudy to cloudy accompanied by some convective clouds over scattered areas of the country with rainfall of different intensities associated with lightning and thunder. Moderate to fresh Southeasterly to Northeasterly winds, strong at times with clouds causing blowing dust and sand reducing the horizontal visibility, with a speed of 20 – 40 reaching 70 Km/hr. The sea will be rough, especially with clouds in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman sea.

Sunday, March 10

Partly cloudy to cloudy over some areas with a chance of rainfall. With a probability of fog or mist formation over some coastal and internal areas. Moderate to fresh Southeasterly to Northeasterly winds, strong at times with clouds causing blowing dust and sand reducing the horizontal visibility, with a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 45 Km/hr. The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman sea.

Monday, March 11

Partly cloudy to cloudy at times especially Northward. Humid by night and Tuesday morning over some coastal and internal areas. Light to moderate Southeasterly to Northeasterly winds freshening at times, with a speed of 15 – 20 reaching 35 Km/hr.
