UAE signs Dh4 billion contract to build frigates

UAE’s “EDGE” group has signed a big contract worth Dh4 billion (€1 billion) to build frigates, a highly advanced navy warship. Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) will construct a fleet of cutting-edge frigates with a length of 71 meters for the Angolan Navy. The highly developed BR71 MKII frigate is equipped with advanced mission systems, such as 3D radar, an electronic warfare suite, secure communications, a main cannon, and surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missile systems. The frigate can carry out a variety of tasks to protect Angola's 1,600 kilometers of coastline. According to Khaled Al-Buraiki, Head of Platforms and Systems Sector at EDGE, this illustrates the strategic approach and unwavering commitment of EDGE and ADSB to expanding national exports, with the wise leadership of the country. EDGE is exporting advanced solutions produced in the UAE to diversify the economy, build local value, establish a local defense industrial base, and maintain the country’s status as a global player in the defense and advanced technology sectors.
