The Emirates School Establishment dismissed rumours on Wednesday (August 30) of a student who allegedly died after failing her studies. In a statement, the public school operator said that the reports have “no basis”, and urged the public to refrain from circulating fake news. Reports on social media allege that the female student died of a heart attack after failing a course in school. Other versions also state that she was asked to repeat her studies, which led to her death. The fake reports came as more than a million students in the UAE returned to schools for the start of the school year this week. The Emirates School Establishment said that authorities have launched an investigation and found no record of the incident or the student in any school in the UAE. The Emirates Schools Establishment is an independent federal entity that manages and operates public schools in the UAE.
