UAE: Summer heat is over, Suhail season begins
The sweltering summer days in the UAE is about to change starting on Tuesday (August 15). On August 24, the Suhail star will shine over the Arabian Peninsula's southeast horizon, bringing in a break from the scorching heat and welcome cooler weather. This celestial occurrence marks the beginning of the Suhail season, promising cooler days and cozier nights. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Science, tweeted that Suhail's appearance signals a change in the summer's weather patterns toward more agreeable conditions. He emphasized that southern location like Liwa might see the star by August 20, while northern parts like Ras Al Khaimah would probably see it around August 25. He initially expected the star's emergence to be around August 15 or 18. Although there is no immediate change in the weather, the rising of the Suhail star is significant from a historical and cultural perspective. It is an astronomical phenomenon that predicts temperature, rain, and season changes, and therefore signals the change to more temperate weather, a promise of comfort after the summer heat, even though it won't immediately chill things down.
