Residents across the UAE can look forward to cooler temperatures as the summer season officially ended on Sunday (September 22), marked by the autumn equinox at 4:44pm. This astronomical event signifies the start of autumn, where day and night are of equal length as the Sun is directly aligned with the equator. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society, highlighted that temperatures will gradually drop, with nighttime cooling becoming noticeable after mid-October. Daytime temperatures are also expected to dip below 40°C, bringing much-needed relief to residents. The equinox also marks the transition from longer days to shorter nights. In polar regions, the Arctic will experience prolonged darkness, while the Antarctic will emerge from its months-long night into daylight. Al Jarwan also pointed out that early autumn evenings will reveal prominent star constellations, including the Big Dipper and the Aquarius Square. Residents can also look forward to the Orionids meteor shower from October 20 to 22, followed by the Leonids in November and Geminids in December. The end of summer also brings increased chances of fog and mist formation across the UAE, along with the possibility of rain, thunder, and dust storms in certain regions due to weakening monsoons and desert thermal lows.
