UAE has second highest number of female board of directors in the world

  DUBAI – A women's organisation praised the UAE's efforts to empower its women, saying that there are only 1.5 percent of women in companies’ board of directors. In the UAE, there are at least 111 Emirati women running for board membership at 111 companies listed in the stock exchanges after the Securities and Commodities Authority amended the corporate governance controls. The UAE is the second country in the world after Norway to impose a women’s representation in boards of directors of companies. The Arab Women Organisation said that women's representation adds value to board of directors and the decision-making process and contributes towards increasing income and shareholders' rights. The organisation also praised the General Women's Union for playing a strategic role in enhancing women's representation in various spheres. One of the contributing factor towards transforming the UAE into one of the world's most innovative and prosperous countries is the UAE Gender Balance Council. CLM/Expat Media
