Country ranked 25th in global index contained in World Bank report
DUBAI – As far as having an efficient judicial system is concerned, the UAE ranked first in the Middle East region, according to the Judicial System Efficiency Index for 2016 of the World Bank (WB).
Globally, the UAE ranked 25th in the index.
The recently-released report covered 190 countries that were evaluated by the WB on their judicial system and ability to handle prosecutions in record time and cost-effectiveness, among other factors.
The Judicial System Efficiency Index measured the efficiency of a country in enforcing work contracts.
The WB conducted a survey based on three parameters, namely, time taken to conclude commercial prosecutions, cost as a percentage of the amount claimed, and quality of legal procedures, which included the structure and court procedures, management of cases, automation of the litigation procedures, and availability of alternative systems.
The high placement of the UAE in the judicial system index was attributed to the implementation of the National Agenda drafted by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The National Agenda aimed to strengthen the UAE's court system and protect the rights of individuals and institutions in the country.
The National Agenda, which is part of UAE Vision 2021, was also meant to make the UAE the safest place in the world through improved police services and preparedness during emergencies while ensuring low crime and high road safety rates.
