The UAE has begun enforcing stricter penalties for driving under the influence (DUI) as part of its updated federal traffic law. Offenders now face fines of up to Dh200,000, along with license suspensions and imprisonment under the updated law that went into effect on Saturday (March 29). Under the new law: • First offense: Minimum fine of Dh30,000 and six-month driving license suspension. • Second offense: Minimum one-year license suspension. • Third offense: Permanent cancellation of the driver’s license. • For narcotics or psychotropic substances: Fines up to Dh200,000 and mandatory imprisonment. Authorities stress that these measures aim to enhance road safety and prevent reckless behavior. “These stricter laws will make UAE roads safer for everyone,” the government stated. ICA/Expat Media
