UAE to trial new facial recognition technology
DUBAI – The UAE is set to trial a facial recognition technology to avail of services in the private and public sector, according to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. “We have approved a facial recognition technology to verify the identity of individuals instead of submitting a lot of documents," said Sheikh Mohammed. "The initiative will be expanded if it proves to be successful." The use of facial recognition technology was proposed by the Ministry of Interior, which will expand its user after the trial period. During the pilot phase, a set of services from private sector companies using the technology will be launched. “The future of government work will be different in the coming decades,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
