The institution ranked 411th last year; university chancellor elated by achievement

  AL AIN – The UAE University is now among the top 400 universities in the world. The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings showed UAE University at 390th place. Last year, the higher education institution ranked 411th. The annual ranking's publisher cited the UAE University's PhD programme "as a vital step in transforming it into a research-intensive university." Established in 1976, UAE University has an estimated 14,000 students and more than 800 faculty. It is located in Al Ain. UAE University chancellor Ali Al Nuaimi welcomed the improvement of the university's ranking in the QS report. "The fact that United Arab Emirates University is now one of the top 1.5 per cent universities in the world, and the top university in the UAE, is truly something to be celebrated. We have aspirations to be among the world's best 100 universities, and we have plans to ensure we achieve this," Al Nuami said. Other UAE universities in the QS report were American University of Sharjah, which tied with the Arabian Gulf University of Bahrain, at 441st place; Khalifa University; American University of Dubai; University of Sharjah; and the Abu Dhabi University.
