DUBAI - The UAE government has urged private sector companies to hire people with disabilities, or people with determination as they are known in the country.
Companies should see them as assets rather than "people to be pitied", said Hessa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development.
Buhumaid was launching three government strategies aimed at encouraging companies to hire more people of determination.
“We have strong belief in their capabilities,” the minister said on Tuesday.
“We don’t want to feel sorry for people of determination. That has to be clear. The government laid down these policies to ensure their rights as well as to highlight their responsibilities," she added.
The UAE Cabinet in June adopted a resolution aimed at empowering people of determination to help them find jobs.
Under UAE rule, employed people of determination must receive job trainings and be allowed flexible working hours.
No hiring quotas
The minister said the government will not be introducing hiring quotas to force companies to hire people of determination.
“We want the hiring of people of determination to be real, not fake,” she said.
“Everyone will abide by a quota but we don’t want them to hire people of determination because of a law.” GAD/Expat 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
