The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has urged private sector companies to meet their Emiratisation target before the June 30 deadline. Under the UAE law, private sector companies with 50 or more workers must hire Emiratis to make up 1 percent of their skilled workforce every six months of the year, or a total of 2 percent per year. “We urge companies to adhere to Emiratisation targets, which are a top priority for the UAE Government, given the role they play in achieving economic growth objectives and the nation’s ambitions for the upcoming period, where the primary focus will be on empowering national human capital,” according to MOHRE. The ministry said that it will begin to monitor companies’ compliance to the rule starting July 1. Violators face fines and a downgrade of their ratings. In some instances, the case will be referred to the Public Prosecution. The Ministry also urged the public to report violators via the hotline 600590000. Meanwhile, companies with a minimum of 20 employees are also required to hire at least one Emirati staff within the year or be fined Dh96,000. This follows the UAE’s expanded Emiratisation drive implemented in January, requiring private companies with 20 to 49 employees to hire at least one Emirati in 2024 and another one in 2025. According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), there are more than 12,000 small-scale private companies that have to comply with the Cabinet decision. Companies that fail to meet the Emiratisation target will be fined Dh96,000 for each Emirati not hired in 2024. The fine will be collected in January 2025. The fine will increase to Dh108,000 if companies fail to meet their Emiratisation target in 2025. ICA/Expat Media
