UAE urges public to celebrate Eid at home amid Covid-19

DUBAI – The UAE government has called on citizens and residents to celebrate Eid at home as the country's daily number of coronavirus cases continued to climb. "As we celebrate Eid, we should celebrate at home where we and our families are safe," said Dr Saif Al Dhaheri, the official spokesman for the National Authority for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management. The holiday is likely to be a long weekend starting on either Saturday (May 23) or Sunday (May 24). The first day of Eid Al Fitr will be announced on the evening of May 22, after the moon-sighting committee meet remotely to search for a new crescent moon. https://www.expatmedia.net/eid-al-fitr-holidays-uae-announced-long-weekend-expected/2020/05/ Al Dhaheri made the comment as the UAE confirmed 832 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday.
