Serious violations in the UAE can lead to punishments that include a hefty fine of up to Dh1 million as well as jail time. Here are violations that could get you in serious trouble:

Gossiping

Spreading rumours and gossip is a serious offense in the UAE that carries a maximum two-year prison sentence or fine of up to Dh1 million. This applies to anybody who "makes or transmits a false statement concerning an individual's honor, good reputation, or financial status."

Leaving children in locked cars

Parents who put their children’s lives in danger by locking them in a car could be fined Dh1 million and given a 10-year prison sentence.

Overcrowding in apartments or villas

In Abu Dhabi, overcrowding in residential areas could get you penalized with a hefty fine of up to Dh1 million.

Posting religious hate content

Under the UAE Cybercrime Law, anyone who makes derogatory or offensive online posts about Islam or any other recognised religions will face imprisonment of up to seven years and penalties ranging from Dh250, 000 to Dh1 million.

Posting harmful content against women, children

Sharing or posting content that may harm women or children is punishable with a hefty fine of between Dh250,000 to Dh1 million and a jail time of up to five years. This also includes pornography, prostitution, and inappropriate behavior. JG/Expat Media
