Cases of people with overstaying tourist visas increased
An increasing number of people with overstaying tourist visas has urged travel agencies in the UAE to file absconding cases. Travel agencies issue tourist visas under their sponsorship, making them liable for their clients to leave the country on time. There is a minimum fine of Dh2,000, which increases each day on absconding cases. If the client cannot be reached, the travel agents are responsible for the fees. The growing number of overstaying cases could result in the blocking of the travel agencies’ visa portals and their reputation can be affected. Many job seekers from Asia and Africa visit the UAE on tourist visas for employment. With this, some people overstay, causing travel agencies to file absconding cases. There is a new jobseeker visa category but the minimum requirement is a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent level of education. Absconding is a criminal offense in the country. People who do not change their visa status can be detained, deported, and banned.
