Travellers stranded in the UAE due to recent airspace closures will not have to pay overstay fines, authorities said. The decision was announced on Wednesday (March 4) by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security. The authority said the exemption applies to anyone who was unable to leave the country on or after February 28 due to airport closures, flight suspensions or other disruptions caused by regional developments. The waiver covers travellers on tourist visas, visit visas and exit permits, as well as residents who had cancelled their residency permits and were expected to depart the country on or after that date. Officials said the measure ensures that stranded travellers will not face financial penalties because of circumstances beyond their control. In recent days, flights across the UAE have been cancelled, delayed, rescheduled or diverted as airlines adjust operations during ongoing regional tensions. The authority said specialised teams at airports and Customer Happiness Centres are assisting travellers affected by delayed or cancelled flights. These teams are working under emergency and business continuity plans in coordination with relevant authorities to help resolve cases and support passengers waiting to leave the country. Officials said the decision reflects the UAE’s humanitarian approach during emergencies and recognises the exceptional conditions faced by visitors and travellers during this period. ICA/Expat Media
