UAE to impose Dh100,000 fine on begging syndicates

UAE authorities have warned of jail time and a fine of up to Dh100,000 on begging syndicates in the emirates. According to the UAE Public Prosecution, managing organized begging is a serious crime in the country that will result in a jail sentence of up to six months and a fine of up to Dh100,000. The same penalty applies to whoever brings people to the UAE to deploy them as beggars on the streets. Under the UAE law, organized begging is when begging is committed by a group of two or more people. Authorities have reported an increase in the incidents of begging during Ramadan, when unscrupulous groups or individuals take advantage of people’s sentiments. ICA/Expat Media
