Residents warned of floods after heavy rain, hail

After some parts of the country were hit by heavy rain and hail, the weather center in the UAE issued a flood warning. Severe rainstorms struck the northern emirates of Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah on Sunday (April 9) afternoon. Video footage of cars and wadis swerving through flooded streets filled with water was shared on a Twitter post by the National Centre of Meteorology. In some Eastern locations, the NCM said that "precautions should be taken in case of heavy rain and hail." The public was advised to avoid places where there were "flash floods and accumulated rain" since rain is expected to last until at least 8pm. All year long, the UAE has had unpredictable weather. High temperatures have been combined with brief downpours and thunder. The Khor Fakkan-Dafta road in Ras Al Khaimah was briefly closed last month when fallen rocks after heavy rain blocked it. While personnel worked to clear the rocks and reopen the road, the emirate's police force made the closure public and rerouted traffic to safer alternatives.
