The UAE’s National Media Office (NMO) has issued a strong warning to social media users and residents, emphasizing strict legal action against those who spread misinformation, hate speech, or defamatory content online. The warning includes those spreading content that "disrespects national symbols, public figures, or friendly nations and their societies."  The office warned that violations—whether direct, indirect, or implied—would be met with strict penalties. “All individuals share the responsibility of upholding the UAE’s reputation,” the NMO stated, echoing the words of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan: “Every action you take, positive or negative, reflects your Emirati identity. We are all responsible for shaping the reputation of this country, as each of us is a guardian of its honour and standing.”

The NMO told social media users in the UAE to uphold national values and the principles of respect, tolerance, and coexistence, reaffirming the importance of responsible digital conduct.

The media office also reiterated the importance of following the guidelines set by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. These principles encourage responsible social media conduct, constructive discourse, and the avoidance of offensive language.

The NMO also called on social media users to report harmful or non-compliant content through official channels. It reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with authorities to ensure a safe and respectful digital environment. ICA/Expat Media
