The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has forecast a gradual drop in UAE temperatures starting Tuesday (September 23), coinciding with the official end of summer and the arrival of the autumnal equinox. According to the NCM, maximum temperatures on Tuesday will range between 28°C and 45°C, with lows between 22°C and 31°C. The weather will be clear to partly cloudy, humid at night and in the morning, with chances of fog in some coastal and inland areas. Winds will be light to moderate, occasionally strong during the day, reaching up to 40 km/h. The Arabian Gulf is expected to turn rough on Wednesday morning, while the Sea of Oman will remain calm. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society, said the astronomical summer that began with the solstice on June 21 officially ends on September 22. “The UAE experienced its longest daylight hours between June 18 and 24, with up to 13 hours and 43 minutes of daylight,” Al Jarwan noted. The autumnal equinox, falling on September 23, marks the point when the sun is directly above the equator, resulting in nearly equal day and night across the globe. For the UAE, it signals shorter days, cooler nights, changing wind patterns, and the start of outdoor-friendly weather. Weather forecast for the rest of the week • Wednesday: Clear to partly cloudy, with low clouds in the east. Northwest winds up to 40 km/h, rough to moderate seas in the Arabian Gulf. • Thursday: Clear to partly cloudy, with winds shifting from northwest to southeast, light to moderate, occasionally strong and dust-stirring. Seas calm to moderate in both the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman. The transition is eagerly awaited by residents after weeks of high humidity and scorching heat, as autumn brings more opportunities for desert camping, al fresco dining, and other outdoor activities.
