Residents across the UAE are being urged to stay alert as unstable weather conditions are expected to continue affecting several parts of the country until December 19, with more rain, strong winds and the possibility of thunderstorms and hail. In a statement, the Ministry of Interior called on the public to strictly follow safety guidelines, warning of periods of rainfall accompanied by strong winds, lightning and occasional hail. This follows an alert from Dubai Police issued to residents on Saturday night, warning that the city “is expected to experience adverse weather conditions” and advising people to avoid beaches, refrain from sailing, stay away from valleys and flash-flood-prone areas, drive carefully and follow official advice. Parts of Dubai and other emirates already experienced rain and unsettled weather overnight and on Sunday morning (December 14). Heavy rain was reported in parts of Dubai, including Jumeirah Beach Residence, Bluewaters and Dubai Marina, while overcast skies were seen in areas such as Al Warsan and International City. Rain was also recorded in parts of Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah and Ajman. Temperatures are expected to remain moderate, with maximums reaching 29°C in internal areas, 28°C in coastal areas and islands, and around 21°C in mountainous regions. Night-time temperatures may drop to between 15°C and 9°C in the mountains, 20°C to 15°C along the coast and islands, and 18°C to 11°C in internal areas. The Ministry of Interior cautioned that visibility could drop significantly in some areas due to blowing dust and sand, particularly during periods of convective cloud activity. Motorists were advised to reduce speed, remain cautious on the roads and avoid valleys and low-lying areas where water may accumulate. Residents were further advised to stay away from beaches and avoid entering the sea during the period of unsettled weather. “These preventive measures are critical to ensuring public safety,” the Ministry said, stressing that adherence to official instructions helps protect lives and maintain community wellbeing. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said the UAE is currently under the influence of a surface low-pressure system extending from the Red Sea, along with humid southeasterly winds. This system is interacting with an upper-air trough and a colder air mass, leading to fluctuating and unstable weather conditions across the country. According to the NCM, weather conditions from Sunday through Monday are expected to be partly to mostly cloudy, with scattered rainfall that could be heavy at times, especially over coastal, island and northern areas. From Tuesday onwards, atmospheric instability is forecast to intensify, bringing intermittent waves of heavier rain, thunderstorms, lightning and possible hail in some regions. Winds are expected to shift from southeasterly to northwesterly, becoming fresh to strong at times, with gusts reaching up to 50 km/h. These conditions may cause blowing dust and sand, further reducing horizontal visibility. Sea conditions in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman are forecast to range from slight to moderate, becoming rough at times due to cloud activity. Authorities continue to urge residents to monitor official weather updates and take all necessary precautions as weather conditions evolve over the coming days.
