A blue supermoon. ARCHIVE
A blue supermoon will be visible from the UAE for three nights starting on Monday night (August 19). Experts say the blue supermoon will be visible starting at around 8pm or after sunset on Monday, and will continue to be visible for three nights. Its peak brightness and size will occur on Monday night. Mohammad Shawkat Odeh, director of the Abu Dhabi-based International Astronomy Centre, said the supermoon be visible across the UAE. Monday’s blue supermoon is considered a seasonal blue moon, which describes the third full moon out of four in a season. The moon will not actually be blue in colour, but it got its name after dust in the atmosphere makes it have a bluish hue. According to NASA, the blue supermoon will appear larger and brighter to the naked eye since it is within 90 percent of its closest approach to Earth.
