An Asian worker who lost part of his right arm due to a workplace injury has been awarded Dh110,000 in damages. The worker had filed a lawsuit in Abu Dhabi Family and Civil and Administrative Court, demanding that the company for which he worked pay him Dh170,000 in compensation for physical, material, and moral damages. In his lawsuit, the man stated that he was injured while working at a workshop, which led to him undergoing surgery and having his right hand amputated from the fingers to the elbow. The worker had presented to the court a copy of the medical report confirming that his right arm was permanently disabled. He also submitted a judicial report demonstrating that the accident was caused by a lack of workplace safety requirements, which violated rules. The man stated that the incident significantly impacted him because he could no longer perform the majority of the work he used to do with an amputated arm. He also noted that no company wants to hire him because of his current situation. The company's lawyer filed a memorandum with the civil court, arguing that it lacked qualitative jurisdiction to hear the case and that the worker failed to file the lawsuit claim within a year of the incident, as required by law. However, his claims were rejected. After hearing from all parties, the Abu Dhabi Family and Civil and Administrative Court judge ordered the company to pay the worker Dh110,000 in damages. The defendant was also ordered to pay the worker's legal fees.
