The UAE’s Dh500 polymer banknote has been awarded the Best New Banknote Issue for 2025 in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. The award was recently announced at the High Security Printing EMEA Conference in Basel, Switzerland, recognizing the Central Bank of the UAE’s (CBUAE) commitment to innovation and sustainability in the financial sector. "The Central Bank of the UAE’s Dh500 banknote winning the 'Banknote of the Year' award is a testament to our dedication to sustainability and innovation,” said Saif Humaid Al Dhaheri, Assistant Governor of Banking Operations & Support Services, CBUAE. The polymer banknote, issued on November 30, 2023, features advanced security elements, three-dimensional designs, and a surface-applied foil stripe, making it one of the most secure banknotes in the region. The front of the note showcases the Terra Sustainability Pavilion at Expo City Dubai, symbolizing the UAE’s commitment to a green future. The reverse features Dubai’s Museum of the Future alongside Emirates Towers and Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, which derives much of its power from solar energy. Incorporating Braille symbols for visually impaired individuals, the new note emphasizes financial inclusivity. "Our dedication to inclusivity ensures that our banknotes are accessible to all," Al Dhaheri added. The Dh500 banknote, printed by Oumolat Security Printing, also reflects the UAE’s drive toward a green economy by using fully recyclable polymer materials that extend durability and reduce waste.
