UAE’s first Hindu temple to partially open in 2020

DUBAI – The UAE’s first traditional Hindu temple is scheduled to partially open to the public in 2020. Work on the massive shrine in Abu Dhabi will be completed in 2022 but the first phase of the construction of community centres, halls and exhibition spaces is due to be completed in 2020. Hindu organization Baps Swaminarayan Santstha is in charge of the project that will sit on 11 hectares of land in Abu Mureikha, near Al Rabba in the capital. The land was a gift from Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. Swami Brahmavihari said that visitors will be able to watch the construction of the temple from an observation area. “Visitors will be able to come and see through glass the entire process of stone construction being done,” he said. The temple will be made from pink sandstone handcrafted in Rajasthan, India. The foundation stone for the temple was laid on Saturday. GAD/Expat Media
