A Canadian company is launching a new service that is going to help Dubai residents and tourists stay cool in the summer heat: umbrellas for rent. UmbraCity announced that it is in talks with authorities to launch the umbrella rental service in the city. Amir Entezari, founder of UmbraCity, says it will be a “game changer in the battle against heat”. The use of umbrellas to protect against the summer heat is common among Asian expats in the UAE, especially Filipinos. In Asian countries and Canada, umbrellas are used rain or shine. According to UmbraCity, its specially-designed umbrellas will be placed in public locations across Dubai. They would be free for UAE residents to use for the first 24 hours. The umbrellas will have a smart chip that will unlock at the kiosk once users register for an account at a kiosk or through the app. The special umbrellas are reportedly designed to offer UV protection and reduce temperatures by up to 6 degrees under it. UmbraCity did not give a timeline as to when the service would be launched in Dubai. ICA/Expat Media
