Union Coop, UAE supermarkets, pharmacies open 24 hours

  DUBAI - Union Coop, the UAE's largest consumer cooperative, announced on Thursday (March 26) that most of its branches will operate for 24 hours amid the coronavirus pandemic. Only Union Coop's branches in Al Mamzar, Al Satwa and International City, as well as Al Mizhar Mini Coop and Coop the Pointe will operate within regular hours. Union Coop’s Director of Happiness and Marketing Department, Dr. Suhail Al Bastaki, said that most of its branches will operate round the clock "to ensure that the goods are provided to the community smoothly, in response to the directives of the concerned authorities". Al Bastaki said all goods are available throughout the day and there is no need for the consumers to rush. He discouraged UAE shoppers from panic buying: "We would like to stress the necessity to follow a shopping style just above normal in order to successfully implement the current instructions to stay at home and support the relevant authorities in the sustainability of resources, commodity stock and food provision for all.”

UAE supermarkets, pharmacies  remain open 24/7

The Ministry of Health and Prevention and the National Emergency and Crisis and Disasters Management Authority have confirmed that supermarkets, groceries, pharmacies and food retail outlets in the UAE can stay open round-the-clock throughout coronavirus outbreak. However, social distancing measures must be enforced, and crowds should not exceed 30 percent of the maximum capacity of their premises. Customers must also observed a two-meter physical distance from each other. "All bodies concerned have to abide by the preventive and precautionary measures taken by the State's competent bodies to ensure public safety and people's wellbeing," the two authorities said in a joint statement.
