A Filipino man sought for child exploitation has been apprehended in Dubai and subsequently repatriated to the Philippines on Thursday (September 12). The suspect was captured with the help of UAE and Singaporean authorities. He is alleged to be the leader of an organized crime syndicate involved in the exploitation of children through online platforms. The arrest marks a crucial victory for international law enforcement cooperation in tackling human trafficking. During a press conference held in Manila, Philippine Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. announced the suspect's capture. The man was presented to the media wearing a black hoodie and face mask, with his handcuffed hands obscured by clothing. General Rommel Francisco Marbil, Chief of the Philippine National Police, and Brigadier General Portia Manalad, Director of the Women and Children Protection Centre, were also present at the press briefing. They highlighted the significance of this arrest in the broader context of combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable children. Abalos first revealed the news of the suspect's arrest on September 8, during a town hall meeting with Filipino expatriates in Dubai. The suspect had been a wanted individual on Interpol’s list, accused of exploiting around 120 children, some as young as 10 years old, through a Facebook page. His criminal activities reportedly involved the distribution of lewd photos and videos, which have drawn widespread condemnation. The suspect, identified as TJM (full name withheld for privacy), has been described as a major player in the trafficking network. The Philippine authorities have expressed their commitment to ensuring that he faces the full extent of the law upon his return. Secretary Abalos underscored that this arrest represents a major breakthrough in the government’s efforts to curb human trafficking and protect children from abuse. During his official visit to the UAE, Abalos also met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Tuesday. Their discussions centered on enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries, with both leaders expressing optimism about future cooperation and progress.
