US Vice President Joe Biden has stated that the US will do its part to avert a "climate hell." The statements came as the US president cited a warning issued by the United Nations secretary general earlier this week in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, which is holding this year's United Nations Climate Change Conference. "So many disasters — the climate crisis is hitting hardest those countries and communities that have the fewest resources to respond and to recover," Biden stated. During his remarks Friday at COP27 in Egypt, President Biden emphasized his administration's commitment to reduce methane emissions, a strong greenhouse gas. Biden said that the US spearheaded the initiative to develop a Global Methane Pledge, in which scores of countries pledged to assist cut global methane emissions by at least 30% by 2030, compared to 2020 levels.
