Made of wood and amber tiles, the model structure can accommodate 2 worshippers at a time

  DUBAI – A US$1-million amber stone mosque was put on display by the Dubai-based company Amber Palm at the Al Falak Ballroom of the Burj Al Arab hotel last Thursday, leaving visitors in awe. The mosque model, which is made of amber tiles and wood, is topped by a dome with a crescent. It can accommodate two worshippers at a time. Because it is lit from inside, the amber tiles become translucent so that the small mosque emits yellow, orange and reddish-browns colors. Motif Interiors, another Dubai firm, designed and constructed the mosque model for Amber Palm. Andrew Sunko, operations manager of NY & Associates, said the company wanted to show off its "patented amber tiles" that can be used as fittings and building materials. Amber Palm is a subsidiary of NY & Associates. Sunko also said NY & Association is eyeing a tie-up with major hotel chains in the Middle East to install the tiles in their structures.
