Use of gas cylinders banned in Dubai Al Khail Gate

  DUBAI - A ban on using cooking gas inside its premises is now enforced in Dubai's Al Khail Gate community. The development came after an August 24 blast blamed on gas build up due to an open stove valve killed an elderly Indian woman and critically injured her daughter. A baby sustained minor injuries. The blast also damaged the walls of the fifth-floor apartment of Building No. 39 in Phase 1 of the community in Al Quoz, as well as two other apartments in the same building. Dubai Properties began putting up notices on Wednesday night (September 21) in all buildings across both phases (Phase 1 and Phase 2) asking tenants to immediately stop using cooking gas and remove gas cylinders. Dubai Properties said in the notice: “We remind you that the use of gas or gas cylinders on the premises or elsewhere in the Al Khail Gate development is strictly prohibited as it is contrary to the contract and to the rules and regulations of Dubai Civil Defence. Please immediately remove any gas cylinders. If you fail to do so, please be aware that you will be responsible for any damage or loss that may be caused, or compensation that may be claimed, as a result of you failure to comply with the contract." Tenants said the notice came as a shock to them, adding that no clause in the contract mentioned this. Others said, however, that the latest contracts mentioned the said prohibition in the community. Tenants at Phase 2 apartments said they have been provided with an outlet for electric stoves while Phase 1 apartments don't have them.
