Veteran comedian and actor Vic Sotto achieved a legal victory on Monday (January 27), as a court partially granted his petition for a Writ of Habeas Data against director Darryl Yap. The case revolved around the controversial teaser for Yap's upcoming film The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma. The court ruling ordered Yap to remove a 26-second teaser video from all online platforms, citing improper use of unverifiable data. The teaser featured a fabricated conversation between two deceased individuals, a move the court deemed a misuse of collected information. The court’s decision underscored the need to ensure accuracy in presenting information, particularly when it involves deceased persons who cannot verify the statements attributed to them.

While the court ordered the removal of the teaser, it allowed Yap to proceed with the production and release of The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma, which is scheduled to premiere on February 5. In response, Pauleen Luna, Sotto’s wife, expressed her gratitude for the ruling through an Instagram post. She celebrated the decision as a win for their family and emphasized the importance of using influence responsibly. “Words and actions have great power, and kindness and integrity should always guide us,” Luna said. She urged people to be cautious about sharing or posting malicious content, encouraging respect and positivity in both online and offline interactions.
