Video: UAE police release footages of jaywalkers hit by cars

Abu Dhabi Police has released footages of jaywalkers being hit by cars while crossing the road at non-designated areas. The video, released on Friday, is part of Abu Dhabi Police’s awareness campaign on pedestrian safety. The video shows a man crossing a road near a roundabout when he gets hit by a vehicle. Another video shows two men crossing a busy highway when they are hit by a pick-up truck. Police said the accidents happened because the victims did not use designated pedestrian crossings. Police have repeatedly reminded the public to avoid jaywalking, and urged pedestrians to use pedestrian crossings and footbridges. In the UAE, jaywalking is punishable with a fine of Dh400. Police also urged motorists to be on the alert for pedestrians crossing the roads, stressing that security and safety of pedestrians is a joint responsibility between pedestrians and drivers.
