Physicians advise residents to take extra precautions

DUBAI – Viral ailments have spiked since last month due to the unstable weather in the country as doctors advised residents to take extra precautions so they won't get sick. Physicians noted that 50 percent of people who consult them had fever, colds and coughing spells – all symptoms of a viral infection. Layla Wazni, an internal medicine physician at the Medcare Hospital, said 70 percent of 150 people who visited her clinic last month were diagnosed with viral infection due to the cold snap prevailing in the country. On the other hand, Ras Al Khaimah internal medicine doctor Al Hadi Al Tayyeb Abbas said he has been attending to six to 10 cases of viral infection in his clinic daily and the patients come from Ajman, Sharjah, Umm al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah. Symptoms of a viral infection are low-grade fever, sore throat, blocked nasal passage, severe cough, cold, allergic rhinitis, body malaise and headache. To avoid contracting viral infection, residents are advised to do the following: -Avoid crowded areas -Use hand sanitizers -Drink plenty of fluids. -Get at least 8 hours of sleep -De-stress as often as possible as stress can lower one's immune system - Consult a doctor if feeling feverish GAC/Expat 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
