A serious traffic accident involving a car and a minibus was caught on camera at a busy Abu Dhabi intersection, prompting fresh warnings from authorities about the dangers of running red lights and distracted driving. In a shocking video released by Abu Dhabi Police on Friday (June 13), a car is seen jumping a red light while attempting to make a left turn, only to be violently struck by a speeding minibus coming from the opposite direction. The force of the impact flips the minibus onto its side and leaves the car badly mangled. The video was shared as part of the police’s “Your Comment” initiative, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Monitoring and Control Center, to raise awareness about road safety and seek public feedback. According to Abu Dhabi Police, the crash was caused by driver distraction—a leading cause of traffic violations and collisions in the emirate. “Failing to focus on the road can result in running red lights, which is one of the most dangerous violations due to its potential to cause severe, even fatal, crashes,” Abu Dhabi Police said in a statement. Authorities warned that using mobile phones while driving—for calls, browsing, or social media—can lead to deadly consequences, particularly at intersections where quick judgment is essential. Police did not disclose whether anyone was injured in the crash, but emphasized that the incident should serve as a stark reminder for all drivers to remain attentive and obey traffic signals.
