Ras Al Khaimah New Year fireworks show breaks 2 world records

DUBAI – Ras Al Khaimah bagged two Guinness World Records with a grand fireworks show to usher in the new year. The emirate now holds the record for "longest straight line of fireworks" and "longest chain of fireworks". "With two Guinness World Records set, the 2019 Ras al Khaimah New Year’s Eve Gala has been truly historic and adds to the pride of our nation," said Abdulla Al Abdouli, managing director and chief executive of Marjan. Thousands of revelers gathered in the emirate to watch the fireworks display that spanned 13 kilometres. Ras Al Khaimah used 11,284 fireworks for the 4.6km chain on Al Marjan Island. Ras Al Khaimah beat the previous record of longest chain of fireworks by Viejas Casino & Resort in Alpine, California, which used 10,005 firework devices. It also beat the record for the longest straight line of fireworks spanning 11.38km in Cavallino Treporti beach near Venice, Italy. The fireworks show in Ras Al Khaimah lasted 12.06 minutes with seven themed chapters set to international music compositions. The fireworks were handcrafted in New York and Virginia over a two-month period. A team spent 300 hours designing the show, which featured a performance by 200 drones that displayed images such as a falcon spreading its wings.
