Abu Dhabi Police captured two major traffic accidents on camera, showing the dangers of distracted driving. The police shared the footage in an awareness video on Friday. Check out the video below, shared by Abu Dhabi Police: In the first incident, a car stops in the middle of the road. The driver casually steps out, leaving the door open. The car behind manages to slow down and tries to steer around it. However, a third car, unaware of the situation, crashes into both vehicles at high speed. The first driver is caught in the collision, and the impact pushes the second vehicle into the barrier. In the second incident, a car crashes into a line of vehicles stopped in a traffic jam. This accident occurred despite the hazard lights on the car in front. The collision involved at least four cars. The extent of injuries in both incidents is unknown. The Traffic and Security Patrols of Abu Dhabi Police remind drivers not to stop in the middle of the road. Instead, move to the nearest exit for safety. If drivers cannot move their vehicle, they are encouraged to call 999 to ask for help to avoid blocking traffic and causing accidents. Dubai Police also advised drivers to stay alert and adhere to traffic rules to ensure everyone's safety. Distracted driving is a serious offence in the UAE, carrying a fine of AED 800 and four black points. Stopping in the middle of the road also results in a penalty of AED 1,000 and six black points. Statistics from the Ministry of Interior show there were 4,391 traffic accidents in 2023, compared to 3,945 in the previous year. These accidents led to 352 fatalities. FLE/Expat Media
